The Möbius strip is a fascinating mathematical object as it only has one side. Although it can be created very easily by half-twisting a simple strip and joining the ends together, it displays a surprisingly complex shape.
Together with Nicola Ringele I designed and built a ceiling light based on the Möbius strip. A strip of spring steel, half-twisted and the ends spot-welded, form the foundation for the LEDs. Not only does the spring steel offer the needed stiffness, but it also acts as a heat sink for the high-power LED strips.
The Möbius strip lighting can illuminate a room in bright daylight, but with the built-in dimmer, it also offers more cozy lighting conditions.
